Thursday 25th Mar, All Day Event on the Islands, Price: TBC
Come and check out the amazing range of activity going on at Auckland’s iconic Rangitoto and Motutapu Islands.

The islands are full of recreation and parks conservation activity. On this field trip we’ll catch up with five very diverse organisations.

First up there is multisport. With the second multi sport event due to be held only days after this field trip you’ll get to hear from the event organiser and understand the opportunities, risks and logistics of managing the conservation v’s recreation outcomes associated with an event of this nature.

We’ll then get to hear from MOEC - Motutapu Outdoor Education Centre, and understand what the island offers by way of a very busy outdoor education centre.

The Motutapu Restoration Trust have worked together with DoC have just come out the back of a very ambitious pest eradication programme.

DoC has also recently permitted filming which is now featured on Under the Mountain. They also continue to develop and maintain the Island as a significant tourist attraction for Auckland.

Last but not least hear from the Rangitoto Island Historic Conservation Trust who are doing an amazing job bringing to more than 30 of the old baches that once made up a vibrant community on the island. See bach 38, which won an international UNESCO award for heritage conservation – a first for New Zealand.

Bruce Pulman Park is a totally new concept in New Zealand sports, recreational and leisure amenities. It is geared towards community excellence at all levels. Already we are having international recognition for our world class sports grounds and indoor facilities in 130 acres of spacious park surroundings.

The Bruce Pulman Park Trust has leased the park from the Papakura District Council which has channeled significant funding and high quality management into the park. The Trust’s philosophy being that everyone in the community irrespective of age, gender, physical ability or nationality can use the facilities and services provided, for recreation, leisure or sporting pursuits.

Join the NZRA and Bruce Pulman Park management for a breakfast and hear about this state of the art park. Tour the park and visit the newly completed accommodation and training lodge.

This morning (½ day) event will be an opportunity for employers and training institutions to select their stars and give them an environment to network and workshop the health of the sector, career pathways and future directions.

The recreation and sports sector has been forced to think about different ways to engage with the community and changes are happening at a rapid pace. New government initiatives, such as kiwi sport, are guiding the sector to engage more young people into sport. Find out how the sector is responding and connecting with kids who wouldn’t normally engage. This is a hands-on event. Register a team of 4 (or we’ll put you in one) and come along in practical clothing to experience first hand three sports that have provided new links and opportunities for our community based on the research showing us that the community is looking for maximum effect with minimum commitment. Also hear about Sport Waitakere’s strategy and broader response. This is not a talk fest. It’s a practical, hands-on taster that will leave you in no doubt about the challenges facing the community and the sector and the enthusiastic response of within one community and three sports.

An opportunity to consider provision of recreation programmes, services and facilities to meet the needs of culturally diverse communities. This breakfast event will give participants an overview of:

• outstanding recreation programmes
• Sir Barry Curtis Park including the brief, consultation processes used, turning ideas into reality – design features of the park
• How well the park is meeting diversity needs

After the event there will be an opportunity to tour Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple and walk or run Sir Barry Curtis Park (35mins)
Wednesday 18th Aug, 7:30- 9:30am, Eden Park, Price: TBC
Join NZRA at the heart of NZ Rugby - the almost refurbished Eden Park! This breakfast event includes a sumptuous continental breakfast in the ASB Western Foyer on the 5th level of the ASB Stand where you will enjoy views over the facility while hearing about progress with facilities, event planning, accommodation and a range of other recreation and event activities well underway in the build up to the Rugby World Cup.
